guest speaker : Peggy Collins Feerehy

Today, Peggy Collins Feerehy, from career services came to talk to our sports administration class about networking, establishing a professional ground, and getting your toes wet in the business world. Mrs. Collins mentioned how it is important to sell yourself in the same way you would sell a product; this lesson would be best carried out during the career fair taking place on November 10, it is a great way to meet people and network. For example the baseball team attended last year and Mrs. Collins had said that they had a great impact on business leaders at the fair, which may greatly help them in the future when they set out for their careers.

Mrs. Collins also demonstrated to the class how to type up an appropriate resume. The most popular resume is the chronological resume. 80% of resumes are in the chronological format, she explained the importance of the stating summary in the beginning of the resume and how it catches the reader’s eye. Mrs. Collins also gave us a handout on Focus 2, Focus 2 is an online career and education planning website. On focus 2 you can search for jobs in your preferred area of study; along with the job results it gives you contact information for those employers. Focus 2 also allows you to create a portfolio for prospecting employers to see. Mrs. Collins gave us some great information today and it will surely help me in the future when I am searching for a job myself!
